A Journey Beyond Earth

A portion of Glen’s ashes will be launched to space aboard our upcoming mission, where they will orbit Earth as part of a lasting celestial tribute.

Whether stargazing from home or tracking the spacecraft through the app, Glen’s loved ones will be able to follow the journey—knowing that their story is quite literally written in the stars.

A round, glossy memorial plaque with a blue ocean and sunset background, featuring a rocket launching into the sky on the upper right. White text is arranged across the plaque. At the top it reads “In Loving MEMORY,” followed by a decorative star and the dates “OCTOBER 02, 1962 - AUGUST 11, 2026.” The center contains a memorial tribute to Glen Betterton:

“WITH DEEPEST RESPECT

I would like to take this opportunity to dedicate the mission of NROL-97 to Mr. Glen Betterton.

For nearly four decades, Glen was a steadfast pillar of the NRO Cape Team, whose leadership, technical mastery and unwavering commitment to the NRO’s objectives underpinned countless successful missions.

He expertly guided propellant-loading operations, always placing mission and people first, and served as a trusted mentor whose integrity inspired numerous colleagues.

Though his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the engineers he mentored and the continued success of the missions he helped to secure.”

A decorative star appears beneath the tribute, followed by the signature “MD out.” The plaque is photographed resting on a gray surface.
